The demographics profile for the main target audience for glamour magazine is a female between the ages 20 and 35. Depending on the where they are between the age range will determine whether they are single, married or divorced, most of the 20 year olds would most likely be single. They would live in a city such as London where it is busy and evolves a lot around fashion, therefore there would be a lot of events like fashion shows available for them to go to. Most of the target audience social class would be b and c1 which is lower middle class and middle class. As the magazine is quite expensive and a lot of the products sold inside are designer, which means people that buy it must have more than average money to spend. They may work in an office and may be working their way up the ladder even make it to management in a job that is well paid.

Psychographic readers for this magazine would most probably be aspirers, who want a luxury lifestyle as the magazine is all about luxury products. Some of the target audience may be succeeds as the magazine is quite expensive so most rich women would buy it as it appeals to them and is easy for them to buy. The car they may drive may be a mini cooper as its small for women and is average priced car, they would maybe live in an apartment as its more luxury than a flat. Their lifestyle subsets would probably be yuppies or dinks. There hobbies may include fashion shows as a lot of the magazine is about clothes, and make up. They may go take a holiday to Paris, the fashion capital. They would listen to girl bands such as the Saturdays and watch modelling programmes such as Americas next top model. They would shop in shops where clothes are quite expensive such as Jane Norman and lipsy, where they can afford the clothes and are very fashionable.

colour and font mood board

This is my colour mood board to experiment what colours work well together and what colours i shouldnt use for my music magazine. I also has differnet fonts that i have thought about using and ones that appeal to me the most. This ihas helped me alot whent hinking about what font and colours that i want to use.

This is a picture i used for my contents page i think it works really well where i put it. It is the same person that was on the front of the magazine the way she is posed works well aswell as she looks right at the audience and the light is really good in this picture.

Analysis of NME contents page

The contents page has 8 pictures on it has the title as "inside this week" and underneath is the date, it has one big picture in the middle to show the feature article and underneath a quote off the article and the page number. around the sides of the page is little other pictures of some pages and there the quotes underneath also on the side has the page number, It also has a plus section on here same as the plus at the front of the magazine. The background is very plain and white but the pictures fill up the space and makes it work. It has an advert on the contents page asking you to subscribe for a price which is a deal so that readers will subscribe and therefore will have to get a magazine every week and that will keep the magazine running. On this contents page there is a younger and older artists for different target audiences this will expand thetre market and also help keep the magazine avaible. The feature article is the biggest so that all the readers will go straight onto that page and read that one it has a picture and a quote with the page number next to it. I think with more picture sit makes the page look more attractive and less boring so this works well.

Full analysis of NME

For my full analysis of a magazine i have chose to analysis NME music magazine, the front cover of this magazine has the price which is at £2.30 a week and the date on the cover as well. At the top of the magazine is a competition to win festival tickets which shows their target audience will like festivals and gigs and therefore will buy the magazine. The title is in yellow and is bold so is easy to see it also goes very well with the background and makes it stand out on the black background. The main person is looking at the camera she is standing in front of a pool. Around the edge is information about the magazine and what is inside the magazine. The font around the edge is black and white the colours that are mostly used are yellow black and white not including the blue background. At the bottom of the magazine it has a plus section to show all the extra articles and information that is in the magazine.

The feature article i have chosen is one of the main person on the front of the magazine and is titled "Courtney love is dead" it is set out with the photographs name under the title and underneath is a paragraph to briefly describe the article. There are three columns and in the middle a little picture of the people that the article is about, on the opposite page is a big picture on the person the article is of. The artcile runs for 6 pages, the second double page has again three columns and 6 pictures on and 5 of them are previous magazine covers that she is on. on both of the pages there are two quotes from what she has said. on the next page is a biggish picture of her. At the bottom is a film review which has nothing to do with the article.

Inside the magazine is alot of advertisement of tickets for festivals and gigs that are up coming which resembles their target audience, they are also advertising a new Sony Ericson's phone and shows you the contracts that you can get, shows a CD that you can get from hmv, how to subscribe to the magazine for half price which alot of NME readers will take and use. There is also a competition to win a camera a Sony bloggle which alot of their target audience will like.

Institutional Data "Music magazine"

Initial ideas for your own music magazine

The magazine that i am doing is a hip hop and R&B magazine. I have chosen the person that i am using for the front cover, by looking at other magazines that have similar qualities i have chosen to do a plain background as most of the magazines i have been looking at have plain backgrounds which i think works pretty well. Also she will be looking straight at the camera it will be a mid shot so mostly you can see her face. It wil only be her on the front cover. Most of the space around her will be filled with information about what is in the magazine and the improtant inforamation that will encourage readers to buy the magazine such as competitions where they can win things that they actually want such as iphones and ipods which people that age in our target audience will want. The colours i am thinking about doing are either purple adn yellow which are contrasting colours or red and black which everyone knows works well together. For the feature article i am thinking about doing an inteview with a well know pop star such as tinie temper or on tinchy strider on his new music video with the other artists that his has put together, this will encourage peopele to buy the magaizne as its things that their interested in. I havent thought about the title yet but i have thought about different fonts to use.

Analysis of feature article

The second feature article that i have chosen is fron "kerrang" and is titled "We wanted to fuck our world up" Underneath the title is a little quote from the article to show the readers a little peak inside. On the right hand side of the page is a big a4 picture of the band my chemical romance. The backround is black and the writting is red these colours work really well together and goes with the lead singers hair in the photo. On the next page is another picture but this timke just of the lead singer of the band gerard way he is centred in the middle of the page and on his right is two colums and one on the left. In the article it says how he became a singer and why he had joined a band he goes into great detail about his life this is a very interesting article about him. On the next page again is a big picture of the group this time with a white backround and writting and the backround of the writting is black to make it stand out. In this photo only two out of the four band members are looking straight at the camera, the other two are looking away. At the end of the article it says to be continued this will encourage readers to buy the next issue of the magazine and is promiting it to there readers.

Analysis of feature article

The first feature article i have chosen is from "MOJO" and is on soul artist Cee Lo Green. The article takes up 5 pages in total, the first page is a big picture of Cee Lo Green on the next page is a big title with quotes out of some of his songs such as "Crazy" and "F**k You". He was interviewed by Steven Chick. The article starts three thirds down the page. in two seperate colums. On the next two pages are all about the questions that have been asked such as "how did you first get into music?" and "What were you like as a youngster?" At the bottom of this double page spread, there are differnet pictures from different parts of his life. A couple of pictures are of him and his family, Him with some of his mates at Barkleys camp and another one in his garden in front of a huge swimming pool. On the left hand side is again a quote from his songs and in bold and in the middle of all the questions so people can see it. The next and last page is a picture of Cee Lo but this time in black and white, which shows his so called "style". On this page is loads more question asked and near the bottom of the page is a colum that shows pictures of his cd covers and a little review of each one there are three in total.

Analysis of mood board

The demographic profile for the main target audience for vibe magazine is a switch between a male and female audience, between the ages 17 and 23. Most of the audience will be single or in a relationship but very few will be married as the age group is very young. They would live in a city where it’s a busy place, they would live an apartment as a house in the city would cost too much for someone of the lower middle class or middle class. Most of the target audience is a c1 and b which is lower middle class and middle class. As a lot of the adverts inside the magazine are advertising expensive stuff such as Rolex watch and expensive cars which shows that they would have to have a lot of money to buy this kind of stuff. A lot of the audience that are at the lower age group will be students but at the higher age they would work at companies such as car shops or designer clothes shops which is a quite high paid job in the city.
Psychographic readers for this magazine would most probably aspirers and succeeders. As the young people will be aspirers and want all this nice expensive stuff and at the other end of the age gap will be succeeders people that have the money to buy these things and go to the nice places. The succeeders will drive a Chevy Malibu which is a man’s car so mostly men would buy it the women may drive a smaller car such as a mini cooper. A lot of the audience may like to go out to clubs and parties in the city. An advert in the magazine is advertising Bombay sapphire drink which is London’s gin. This shows that they are probably around London and will like to have fun and drink. A lot of the jewellery inside the magazine is expensive such as the Rolex inside which succeeders can afford.
Their lifestyle subsets would probably be yuppies or dinks. Their hobbies may be fashion shows as they like designer wear and a lot of fashionable things, some of the men may go to football matches or sports events. They would listen to a lot of rap and grind as that’s what the magazine consists of, they would have to be into hip hop music. The magazines are mostly about artists such as lil Wayne, jay-z, Chris brown and Rihanna. But there are lots of other hip hop artists involved.

Analysis of Vibe magazine front page

The magazine vibe is a monthly magazine costing £2.30, aimed at the middle class as they would only have the money to buy it monthly. It is aimed at teenagers that are into r&b, hip hop and pop music such as lil wayne who is on the front cover. Shows hes cool and which quotes on the front ‘gangsta’.
The writing that is used on the front cover is slang so therefore shows again that the audience would the younger generation. Other artists that are named on the cover are t-pain and solja boy . The magazine shows it has black and white singers on the front cover such as lil wayne who is indeed black. On the cover is mostly about music, drugs and sex which brings us back to the target audience as teenagers which are interested in that stuff.
The writing used is slang such as ‘best wezzy songs’ its words that only younger people usedstand your nan isn’t going to understand what that means which shows she wouldt be buying the magazine plus she wouldn’t be bothered in the music and the front cover doesn’t appeal to her.
The main person is on a thrown which shows his power to the audience he kind of intimidates the audience the way his facial expression is and the way he is crouched down. The magazine is aimed at younger people that are into rap and grind music.

Analysis of NME front cover

The magazine NME is a weekly issue which costs £2.30, this shows that their target audience has enough money to buy the weekly issue. Along the side of the magazine they have advertised other people that are inside such as; 'iggy pop' and 'debbie harry' which encourages the older generation that listen to that music to buy the magazine as it would have articles about music that appeals to them.
The main picture is the lead singer of 'my chemical romance' 'Gerard way' the target audience for this band would be for the younger generation who enjoy their music, so more younger people would buy that issue of the magazine as it has music that appeal to them more.
It only says the singer first name as it assumes that the target audience will already know who he is. He quotes 'we loathe what goth has become' the word goth shows the target audience because not everybody uses it and are familiar with the word.
